Riding The Current of Change

Mission Statement:

30 Waves, 30 Days is dedicated to exploring the transformative power of river surfing while advocating for mental health, environmental conservation, and community engagement. By riding 30 river waves in 30 days, we aim to inspire individuals to connect with nature, support river restoration projects, and highlight the therapeutic benefits of water recreation for underserved communities.

Project Core Themes:

• River Surfing Exploration: Documenting the journey of surfing 30 different river waves in 30 days across Colorado, showcasing the challenge and adventure of river surfing in landlocked locations.

• Mental Health Advocacy: Highlighting the therapeutic benefits of water and surfing on mental health, emphasizing the project's aim to raise awareness and support for mental well-being through the connection with nature.

• Environmental and River Advocacy: Underlining the importance of river conservation and the positive impacts of river restoration projects, advocating for the health and preservation of natural waterways.

• Community Impact: Focusing on how the project supports underserved communities through river restoration, providing access to river surfing as a recreational and therapeutic activity, and highlighting potential partnerships with local organizations for broader community engagement.

  I thought I could document this via third person. Sort of a guide. But I realized how intertwined this concept & subject matter was with my own journey of discovering the benefits of water recreation. I’ve had struggles with my own mental health and haven’t found my true community. I was just starting to feel comfortable in Hawaii and felt like I found my “tribe” within the water community. Surfing, paddling, ocean way-finding, they all held my attention intensely. Partly because they were new endeavors, but mostly because they were so damn satisfying. But I could never really pinpoint why. I'd say I’ve lost a little bit of the connection since we moved back to Colorado. So how do I find it again? When we first moved back from Hawaii, River surfing gave me a glimpse, but I've yet to reconnect to that feeling of true community. My hope is through service I’ll find some connection.

With over 3.5 million miles of river in the US, we set out to showcase the vast, untapped potential of US waterways and how with proper access to these waterways, we can help people heal.
